Aero Pacific Custom Draperies founder Harold Moses began his career in the remodeling business back in the 1950s. Little did he know then that his future wasn't to be bricks and mortar, but rather, needles and thread.
At first glance, the two businesses may seem unrelated, but they were actually a perfect fit. Upon completion of a new addition, Harold's customers were often looking for someone to add that final touch - custom draperies. In answer to his customers requests, Harold added a custom drapery division to his company in 1957. As word-of-mouth spread, what began as a side business soon became Harold's focal point. Not only was more and more business coming his way, but Harold quickly found that he loved the creativity that the custom drapery business allowed him. Finally, in 1959, he decided to concentrate on his new-found love, starting the first Aero Draperies location in Southfield, Michigan. The "Back Room" Harold saw the opportunity to not only create custom draperies to order, but a way to offer those same quality draperies to his more budget-conscious customers. He began acquiring unclaimed custom draperies from various workrooms across the country, then offered them to his customers in what became known as the "Back Room". Aero Pacific continues to offer hundreds of these draperies to its customers today. The business continued to flourish and, by the early 1960s, Harold added a custom blind division. Harold's son, Mitchell, began working alongside his father in 1985. The following year, Harold and Mitchell purchased Pacific Drapery, an existing, successful, 35-year-old custom drapery business in Inkster, Michigan. That location, which was relocated to 5908 Middlebelt Road in Garden City in 1989, serves as the company's headquarters today. Mitchell spent the next decade learning the craft before taking over the business, following Harold's retirement, in 1995.
